
Sotiris Ntalis is a Professor of International Relations, International Politics and European Integration. He is Chair of the Department of Mediterranean Studies: Archaeology, Linguistics, and International Relations, where he has been teaching since 2009, and Director of the M.A. Program “Governance, Development and Security in the Mediterranean.”
He has also taught at various institutions, including the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the University of Athens, the Department of Agricultural Economics and Development of the Agricultural University of Athens, the University of Piraeus, the National School of Public Administration, the Hellenic National Defense College, and the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Additionally, he served as a research associate at the Center for Analysis and Planning of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2003 to 2015 and as a special advisor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1996 to 2003.
He founded and continues to direct the Research Unit for European and International Policy at the Department of Mediterranean Studies of the University of the Aegean. In collaboration with the M.A. program, he publishes the semiannual journal Greece, Europe and the World. Additionally, he co-edits, alongside Professor M. Stefanakis, the Mediterranean Studies Yearbook.
He is the Director of the semiannual academic journal International and European Politics, as well as the book series International and European Politics published by Papazisis Publishers. This series has published over 150 titles on international relations and European integration. Additionally, he served as the publishing director of the monthly Diplomatic Courier. He has an extensive body of scholarly work on European integration and international politics. His recent books in Greek include Mare Nostrum: Shifts of Power on the Geopolitical Map of the Mediterranean. Geopolitical and Geoeconomic Challenges (Papazisis, 2020), After the Pandemic: Greece, Europe and the World in the Shadow of Dystopia. Challenges and Prospects (Papazisis, 2021), and The ‘Difficult’ Europe: In Search of a New European Solidarity (Papazisis, 2018). He has also edited the Atlas of International Relations (Pedio, 2022) and the Global Geopolitical Atlas (Pedio, 2024).
In addition, he wrote the prefaces and edited the Greek editions of books by Mark Leonard, The Age of Unpeace (Asini, 2024); Richard Haass, The World: A Brief Introduction (Asini, 2022); François de Teyssier and Gilles Baudier, The Construction of Europe (Daedalos, 2026); and Simon Usherwood and John Pinder, The European Union: A Very Short Introduction (Pedio, 2026).
