Giorgos Markopoulos is a post-doctoral researcher and a member of the teaching staff of the Department of Mediterranean Studies at the University of the Aegean. After receiving his Ph.D. from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, he worked as an adjunct faculty member at the University of the Aegean, the Democritus University of Thrace and the University of Nicosia. He was a visiting scholar at University College London and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and he has worked in research projects of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the University of Ioannina and the University of the Aegean. He has published articles in journals, edited volumes, conference proceedings etc. and has given peer-reviewed or invited talks in many international conferences, workshops and colloquia. His research interests focus on morphosyntax and phonology, with particular emphasis on the comparative study of grammatical structures and phenomena at a cross-linguistic level and, especially, in languages of Southeastern Mediterranean.
