Laboratory of Environmental Archaeology & Preventive Conservation, LEAPC<\/h2>\n

Since its foundation, the Laboratory of Environmental Archaeology and Preventive Conservation has been offering an important teaching and research work to the University of the Aegean, helping students acquire familiarity with modern trends in archeology and choose employment in new research areas.<\/p>\n

The LEAPC has a small library, some comparative collections of charred seeds, animal bones, fish, human bones and shells. Another useful comparative material is the environmental excavation material of prehistoric sites consisting of seeds and animal bones and remnants, from soil sieving, containing bones, fish scales, micro-fauna and fragments of stone artifacts. Also important is the small archaeological collection of selected fragments of ceramics and stonework from the excavations and other research of DMS.
\nStudents have the opportunity to process these samples by viewing them in a stereoscope, acquiring the knowledge necessary for their participation in excavations.<\/p>\n

The research interests of the LEAPC include field archaeology, study of charred seeds, comparative study of animal bones, physical anthropology, pollen analysis, study of fish and shells, archaeogeology, experimental archaeology, study of obsidian tools and flints and identification of use from traces, petrographic examinations of ceramics and issues of preventive conservation.<\/p>\n
